![]() Heyer is the literary equivalent of comfort food for me. That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy it despite the predictability I read on happily to the end. The story follows the path of many of Heyer’s books – rich, eligible, bachelor, seems to have no interest in marriage until he meets a sensible (but well bred) female who is beyond the normal marriageable age for females at that time. The rest of the book is basically a series of adventures and misunderstandings, often precipitated by Tiffany’s absolute belief in her right to have the world exactly as she wants it to be. She has no trouble attractin young Lord Lindeth, but Sir Waldo is immune to her charms. ![]() ![]() Tiffany, in particular, is determined to add them to her admirers. - The Nonesuch The Nonesuch by Georgette Heyer 'I like the Squire, dont you' remarked Julian idly. The introduction of two rich and titled gentlemen into the locality galvanises the neighbourhood. Ancilla deals with her situation with calm good humour until the arrival of Sir Waldo and his nephew. ![]() ![]() Her main charge is rich, spoilt, and selfish, Tiffany Shield (who it is easy to imagine as an Instagram influencer if she’d lived in the present). Determined not to be a burden on her family when her father dies, practical and well bred Ancilla Trent is working as a governess in Yorkshire. ![]()
